General
Man Behind the Mirror is a men’s wellness brand dedicated to empowering men to be the best version of themselves through proactivity around health and preventative self-care. In essence we want all men to feel the best they can do. At Man Behind the Mirror we aim to increase the awareness of the medical-based products that are available to help in sensitive areas such as hair loss and ED as well as provide complementary non-prescription products such as in our teeth offering to maximise your self-confidence and make the most of your potential. We want you looking and feeling great.
The idea for Man Behind the Mirror was borne out of a personal experience of one of the co-founders. In his mid-20s, he was at his desk reading a legal document when he put his head through his hands and noticed several hairs fall onto the keyboard below. Thinking it was a one off, he again put his hands through his hair and again more hairs fell onto the pages in front of him. This began a personal journey as to what was happening and what treatments, if any, were available.
The co-founder found the learning process utterly confusing with a multitude of information sources proclaiming they knew what was happening and an overwhelming range of treatments each proclaiming to be the miracle cure. Upon an awkward physical meeting with a consultant it became apparent the co-founder had the classic symptoms of male pattern baldness. Once diagnosed the question was then how to address it. At the time it was incredibly confusing as to what products were out there and what worked best. In any event the medical-based products were hugely expensive and locked behind further face-to-face consultations with specialists and frustrating and sometimes embarrassing pharmacy visits.
Man Behind the Mirror was born. Our aim is destigmatise men’s wellness issues and make dealing with them less traumatic. There are millions of men going through what the co-founder did. Let’s find a way to make the process as easy and pleasurable as possible. At Man Behind the Mirror we aim to educate you as to the science behind hair loss and sexual wellness issues and offer you the latest and most effective scientific based treatments. We and our partners provide you with a personalised service so you get the treatment that works best for you. We want these issues to be out of mind so you can focus on what actually matters in life.
At Man Behind the Mirror we provide for easier and more affordable access to MHRA-approved, medical-grade products which address hair loss and sexual wellness. Most of the medical-based treatments we offer require a private prescription. We kindly ask for you to fill out a simple health questionnaire which will be reviewed by one of our partner clinicians who will then determine whether the treatment you are seeking is suitable for you. If partner clinicians recommend that the treatment can be prescribed it will be sent quickly and discreetly to the address you have given us.
Man Behind the Mirror offers other products for which no prescription is required. These treatments are essentially a la carte and we will deliver these products quickly to you once you have placed the order.
Here at Man Behind the Mirror, we are creating a men’s wellness brand worthy of the 21st century. We are the go-to brand for male aspiration and male empowerment.
We are doing this by offering a service which seeks to reduce the stigma associated with men’s wellness issues such as hair loss and sexual wellness and we aim to increase the awareness of the medical-based treatments available to address these issues. We offer access to a comprehensive suite of treatments which are medically proven to address sensitive areas such as hair loss and sexual wellness.
Our online medical consultation ensures you will receive a personalised treatment plan which will be delivered quickly and reliably to you. Our intention is to provide you with a fulsome and seamless service so you can be at peace, safe in the knowledge that you are doing all you can do medically to address these issues, and can turn your sole focus on what matters – living life to the max.
Man Behind the Mirror provides a monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly subscription service for the prescription-based treatments and some of the other products that do not require a prescription. There’s a good reason for this as the treatments we offer must be used continuously in order to see results and maintain this improvement. You may chose the frequency of our service so you don’t have to worry about running out of the treatments at any point. You can adjust your subscription at any time by simply emailing us. It is whatever works best for you.
Our personalised products are available throughout the United Kingdom in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Man Behind the Mirror was borne out of a desire to improve men’s wellness particularly on the two socially sensitive issues of hair loss and sexual wellness. Man Behind The Mirror, together with our partner clinicians, have spent a whole lot of time researching the most effective medicine based treatments to address these issues. We offer a personalised service which guides you to the most suitable MHRA-approved, medical grade products that are scientifically proven to work.
As well as tackling these more sensitive issues we have a wider ambition to empower men. We went all men to feel confident, to thrive with a can-do and non-judgemental attitude, to look and feel the best they can both mentally and physically. We will soon offer a complementary selection of over-the-counter products which will allow men to maximise their potential.
For treatments requiring a prescription our online platform allows patients to receive a remote diagnosis from trusted medical professionals. Through this service, which is guided by clinical practice guidelines, you have a safe means by which to receive the medical advice and treatment which we personalise to you and which will be delivered to you at your home address.
For any prescription treatments you will need a prescription. This includes finasteride and sildenafil. If you seek to purchase prescription treatments our partner clinicians will assess your specific needs and provide you with the appropriate prescription after you complete a digital medical assessment on our website. You do not need your own prescription. For the other products we offer no prescription is needed. These products are essentially a la carte and delivered straight to you once you place an order.
For the time being we are unable to accept outside prescriptions. This means if your doctor has already written a prescription for you we will still need you to complete a digital medical assessment when you place your order.
Yes. You always have a right to a copy of your medical records. Please contact us at help@manbehindthemirror.co.uk and we will be able to assist you further. Hair Loss
The most common form of hair loss in men is called male pattern baldness. The scientific name is androgenetic alopecia. It is believed that male pattern baldness is caused by the sensitivity of hair follicles to a hormone called DHT which is a by-product of testosterone production. DHT builds in male bodies as we get older. Hair follicles are sensitive to DHT which causes them to shrink over time.
Each hair follicle traditionally supports three hair strands. As the follicle shrinks so to does the blood flow to it and the hair strands that it can support. Hair thinning reflects the lower number of hair strands that can be supported by each hair follicle. When a follicle can no longer support any hair strands baldness ensues.
Male pattern baldness is generally diagnosed with respect to where you are losing your hair. It causes hair loss in a well-defined pattern, beginning above both temples. Over time, the hairline recedes to form a distinctive M shape.
Whilst genetics and specifically DHT levels in scalp tissue and hair follicle sensitivity to DHT are usually to blame for hair loss, there are sometimes other causes such as serious illness, nutrient deficiency, excessive alcohol, smoking, stress and a lack of exercise.
A lot sooner than you think! Male pattern baldness is caused by the hormone DHT which is a by-product when the male body produces testosterone. This means that hair loss can happen at any time from puberty.
One of the co-founders of Man Behind The Mirror found he began losing his hair in his mid-to-late 20s. This is not uncommon if you look at the statistics. If you take those men who have a genetic predisposition to hair loss then approximately 25% will start losing their hair as early as 21. For the wider population about two of out of every three men will experience some hair loss by the age of 35 and 85% of men will experience some hair loss by the age of 50.
In most cases yes. Male pattern baldness is caused by genetics. Whilst it is commonly believed that you inherit the hair loss gene from your mother’s side of the family studies have shown that the gene can get passed down both sides of your family. Note there are other factors that can cause hair loss such as serious illness, nutrient deficiency, excessive alcohol, smoking, stress and a lack of exercise.
2 out of every 3 men will experience some form of hair loss by the age of 35. If you think you are starting to shed your hair Man Behind The Mirror is here to help. We can diagnose as to whether you are suffering from hair loss and we can show you treatments that are medically proven to stop and potentially reverse hair loss for the vast majority of men that take them. You simply need to complete an online consultation. A partner clinician will then quickly evaluate your condition and provide you with a suitable personalised treatment plan.
It sometimes feels like it but it’s simply not true! It’s a myth that wearing a cap or regular brushing causes strain on hair follicles which could in turn result in hair loss. It is however good practice to keep your hats clean and not share your hair brush with others to prevent the risk of scalp infection.
At Man Behind The Mirror we are scientifically driven and results led. That’s why we sell the only two medically-approved and clinically-proven hair loss treatments: Finasteride and Minoxidil. Finasteride is a tablet which should be taken once daily. Minoxidil is a solution in liquid or foam form that is applied to the scalp twice daily.
Man Behind the Mirror has been created to tackle the sensitive issues men face such as hair loss and to empower men to make the feel and look the best they can. We want you to relax in the knowledge that with these medically-approved products you are doing all you can to tackle hair loss. You can then focus on things that matter in life.
Yes, both treatments are complementary as they work in different ways and target different parts of your scalp. Together they can be used for maximum effect. If you are suffering from hereditary hair loss this one-two combination is commonly prescribed as it has been shown to be more effective than just taking each of the treatments individually.
Finasteride is a tablet which aims to stop the natural production of DHT as a by-product of testosterone production. Finasteride eliminates DHT at the source. It is therefore effective in treating hair loss all over the scalp which includes at the hairline. Minoxidil is a spray in liquid or foam form that increases the blood flow to the hair follicles which accordingly promotes hair growth and strengthens hair. It is most effective for treating hair loss at the top of the scalp.
Finasteride is a prescription medicine commonly used to treat male pattern baldness. It is currently the most effective hair loss medication available. The medicine works by decreasing the amount of a natural body hormone known as DHT. Decreasing the amount of DHT leads to increased hair growth and slower hair loss. Hair growth on other parts of the body is not affected by finasteride.
The differences between generic Finasteride and Propecia® are found only in the inactive ingredients such as those that bind the drug together in tablet form. Propecia® is the brand name of the generic which is made with 1 mg dosage of Finasteride.
Finasteride is currently the most effective medically approved drug for male pattern baldness. Consistent studies have shown that most men who took the recommended dosage saw a reduction in hair loss.
We offer Finasteride 1mg in a form of an oral tablet. It should be taken once daily, with or without food, at around the same time to increase its effectiveness.
The active substance is finasteride. One film-coated tablet contains 1mg of finasteride. In the tablet core the other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, cellulose, microcrystalline (E460), starch, pregelatinised (maize), sodium starch glycolate (type-A), lauryl macrogolglycerides and magnesium stearate (E572). The ingredients for the film coating are hypromellose (E464), titanium dioxide (E171), macrogol 6000, iron oxide red (E172) and iron oxide yellow (E172).
As male pattern baldness develops over a long period of time it makes sense that hair re-growth with Finasteride also takes time. It depends on the individual but as a base case you should expect to need to use Finasteride daily for 3 months before you notice an increase in your hair density or a reduction in your hair loss.
Studies have shown that most men who took Finasteride consistently experienced a reduction in hair loss within 12 months. In clinical trials, 85% of men stopped their hair loss from progressing and 65% experienced some level of hair re-growth. Because of this high success rate, Finasteride is the leading prescription drug for treating male pattern hair loss. In general, it takes between 3 to 6 months to see the results of the treatment. Finasteride must be taken continuously to maintain the hair growth. When you stop taking it any gain in hair quantity is generally lost within 12 months. We recommend you take each tablet at around the same time daily to increase its effectiveness.
You need to continue taking Finasteride daily to maintain the hair that you have maintained or that has re-grown. If you stop taking Finasteride you are likely to lose the hair you have maintained and that has re-grown within 9 to 12 months.
Like all medicines Finasteride can cause side effects. Clinical trials have shown that the side effects are uncommon and affect only a small percentage of men. Side effects that some men experienced included sexual dysfunction. You should be aware of the potential side affects before taking this treatment. Please read the patient leaflet before taking Finasteride. What is minoxidil?
Minoxidil is a topical solution applied to the scalp that is medically approved and clinically proven in treating male pattern baldness. Man Behind the Mirror offers the 5% solution which is considered the most effective for treating male pattern baldness. Minoxidil increases blood flow to the follicles which serves to slow hair loss and stimulate hair growth.
Approximately 1 ml of Minoxidil solution should be applied directly to the scalp twice per day, preferably morning and evening. Part your hair in the area of thinning and apply the solution evenly to the affected area of the scalp. Gently rub in. Please ensure that your scalp area is clean and dry before applying the medication. There is no requirement to wash your hair before use. Please allow the solution to dry completely before using other styling products (e.g., gels, mousse) or before going to bed.
Minoxidil has been shown to be most effective at the top of the scalp and on the crown. There is no detailed scientific research on how Minoxidil works on the hairline. You should consider Minoxidil as a treatment with potential benefits for strengthening hair on your hairline, rather than as a guaranteed way to regrow your hairline.
Clinicians recommend applying 1 ml of Minoxidil solution to the affected areas of the scalp twice per day, once in the morning and once at night.
Normal hair grows approximately 1.25 cm per month, so hair regrowth with Minoxidil also takes time. You may need to use Minoxidil twice a day for 3-4 months before you see results.
Like all medicines Minoxidil can cause side effects. The most common side effect is at the scalp where the application is made and relates to itching and skin irritation. This irritation is attributed to alcohol and propylene glycol which are ingredients in the Minoxidil solution. The application used by Man Behind the Mirror does not contain alcohol and propylene glycol which reduces the likelihood of any side effects. In any event, you should be aware of the potential side effects before taking this treatment. Please read the patient leaflet before taking Minoxidil.
Sexual Wellness
An erection is caused by blood flowing into the penis. In most cases when we are sexually stimulated the penis produces nitric oxide. Nitric oxide activates an enzyme called guanylate cyclase which accordingly results in the production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). It is cGMP that is primarily responsible for the erection as it affects the volume of blood that our blood vessels deliver and remove from the penis (ultimately by relaxing and contracting the vessels).
So far so good. However, to varying degrees, we produce an enzyme called phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) which destroys the cGMP. This makes it harder to get and maintain an erection. Man Behind the Mirror offers treatments that prevent the destruction of cGMP as the treatments bind to PDE5 and stop it from working. This allows cGMP to accumulate and persist for longer. The longer cGMP persists the more prolonged the erection of penis.
Man Behind the Mirror is here for you! We offer two types of ED medication which are on a prescription basis. Our partner clinicians will assess your specific needs and provide you with the appropriate prescription after you complete a digital medical assessment on our website.
Based on the diagnosis of your questionnaire we can offer two treatments for you; Sildenafil and Tadalafil. Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra whilst Tadalafil is the active ingredient in Cialis.
Absolutely yes. ED can be diagnosed by a partner clinician based on the digital medical assessment on our website. The questions are designed to evaluate your symptoms and make sure it is safe and appropriate to prescribe you ED medication. Our partner clinicians use the technology of our online platform to diagnose ED in the same way a patient would be diagnosed in person. It is important that you answer each question truthfully, accurately and to the best of your knowledge.
Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra. It is a prescription medicine commonly used to treat ED. The most common cause of ED is a narrowing of the arteries that take blood to the penis. Sildenafil works by preventing the action of a chemical in your body called phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5).
Sildenafil is referred to as a PDE5 inhibitor. Sildenafil works by binding to PDE5 and stopping it from working. This helps to relax blood vessels and improves the flow of blood to the penis once you are sexually stimulated. This helps to maintain an erection. Sildenafil is MHRA approved to treat ED.
Each tablet contains sildenafil citrate equivalent to 50 mg of sildenafil. In addition, each tablet contains cellulose microcrystalline, dibasic calcium phosphate dihydrate, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide and triacetin.
Sildenafil is a prescription medication and cannot be purchased without first completing an online medical assessment which will be reviewed by a partner clinician before prescribing treatment. Man Behind the Mirror offers products for men only for patients who are aged between 18 and 25. If you have any additional questions please contact us at help@manbehindthemirror.co.uk
Oh yes. Studies show that a whopping 85% of men get the result they want from Sildenafil.
Sildenafil is in tablet form and is to be consumed orally. It takes between 30-60 minutes to begin to take effect. We recommend that you take it up to four hours before you intend to have sex. You do not get an erection simply be taking the tablet. You need to be aroused for it to work!
For the most effective results it is best taken on an empty stomach. It may take longer to work if taken with food. Excessively overindulging in alcohol beforehand may reduce your ability to get an erection and will prevent you from getting the maximum benefit from the tablet. Do not take more than one dose of sildenafil in any 24-hour period.
Sildenafil should be taken approximately 60 minutes before sexual activity. You should begin to feel a noticeable effect within 30 after you take the tablet. Do not take more than one dose of sildenafil in any 24-hour period.
Like all medicines Sildenafil can cause side effects. The most common side effects are dizziness, headaches, muscle aches, facial flush, vision issues, nasal congestion and indigestion.
It is recommended that you do not drink grapefruit juice with sildenafil. This is because there is a chemical in grapefruit juice which can increase the amount of sildenafil in your bloodstream and this makes side-effects more likely.
Please read the patient information leaflet carefully for a full list of side effects and additional advice.
Tadalafil is the active ingredient in Cialis. It is a clinically proven and highly effective treatment for most men who experience ED.
The most common cause of ED is a narrowing of the arteries that take blood to the penis. Like Sildenafil, Tadalafil works by preventing the action of a chemical in your body called phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5). Tadalafil works by binding to PDE5 and stopping it from working. This helps to widen (relax) blood vessels and improves the flow of blood to the penis following sexual stimulation. This helps to maintain an erection. Tadalafil is MHRA approved to treat ED.
Tadalafil is in tablet form and is to be consumed orally. In contrast to Sildenafil, Tadalafil takes effect quicker and lasts for longer. We recommend that you take it about 30 minutes before you intend to have sex. Each tablet lasts for up to 36 hours (half of the drug leaves the bloodstream after 17 hours). As you don’t need to plan ahead and it lasts for two days it is colloquially referred to as the Weekend Pill!
Do not take more than one dose of Tadalafil in any 24-hour period.
Tadalafil is a treatment for ED. It is commonly prescribed for men who tried and found Sildenafil to be ineffective or who are looking for longer-lasting effects.
Tadalafil is prescription medication and cannot be purchased without first completing an online medical assessment which will be reviewed by a partner clinician before prescribing treatment.
Man Behind the Mirror offers treatments for men only for patients who are aged between 18 and 65. If you have any additional questions please contact us at help@manbehindthemirror.co.uk
Tadalafil is the faster and longer lasting sibling of Sildenafil. It can work within 30 mins compared with 1 hour with Sildenafil and its effects can last for 36 hours compared with 4 hours with Sildenafil. It is referred to as the Weekend Pill as on tablet on a Friday night could help you last all weekend.
In case you think you may have a 36 hour erection… Tadalafil’s longevity does not mean you have an erection for the entire time. You still need to be aroused sexually!
Each tablet contains 10 mg of tadalfil which is the active ingredient. In addition, each tablet contains include copovidone, macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate, lactose monohydrate, silica, colloidal anhydrous, cellulose, microcrystalline, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E 171), talc (E553b), yellow iron oxide (E172) and triacetin.
Like all medicines Tadalafil can cause side effects. The most common side effects are dizziness, headaches, muscle aches, facial flush, vision issues, nasal congestion and indigestion. The side effects are usually mild and temporary. Please read the patient information leaflet carefully for a full list of side effects and additional advice.
It’s suggested that 85% of men who take Viagra achieve erections strong enough for sex. Viagra was the first treatment to be clinically approved to treat erectile dysfunction. Since then a number of similar medications have come onto the market, such as Cialis, Levitra, and Spedra. In a review of 82 trials covering over 47,000 patients, Viagra 50mg was found to be the most effective of all the other comparable medications. Hence why it is our treatment of choice.
Viagra starts to work within 30-60 mins and maximum erection potential happens after the one-hour mark. It is meant to work for around four hours, longer for some lucky men.
If present, side effects from taking Viagra are usually mild and temporary. The most common side effects of Viagra are: Headache, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, dizziness, nausea, hot flushes, vision changes (such as having a blue colour tinge, or blurred vision). Please read the patient information leaflet for more information.
Sildenafil is the active ingredient. Other ingredients are: Tablet core: microcrystalline cellulose, calcium hydrogen phosphate (anhydrous), croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate Film coat: Hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E171), lactose monohydrate, triacetin, indigo carmine aluminium lake (E132).
Viagra Connect was released in March 2018 by Pfizer and it is the first pharmacy (P) medication for erectile dysfunction to be made available without prescription. It is the brand of our medicine containing Sildenafil 50mg and available to men aged 18 years and over. It is widely used to treat ED and has a well-tolerated and effective medicine with an established profile, available over the counter without prescription to eligible patients.
The maximum potential mark is at one hour after taking, however it typically does work between 30-60 minutes after taking it. It might be faster if taken on an empty stomach. Viagra Connect remains in your system for up to 6 hrs.
VIAGRA connect contains the same active ingredient and strength (50mg) as in our generic (unbranded) Sildenafil tablets. It works just in the same way and has the same safety and effectiveness profile. Which brand should you choose? Whichever one suits you!
If present, side effects from taking VIAGRA connect are usually mild and temporary. The most common side effects of VIAGRA connect are: headache, flushing, dyspepsia, nasal congestion, dizziness, nausea, hot flushes, vision changes (such as having a blue colour tinge, or blurred vision). Teeth Whitening
Teeth become yellow when the enamel thins and the dentin underneath shows through it. Dentin is a deep yellow to brownish material inside your teeth under the enamel, and it's often responsible for the yellow you see when you look in the mirror. Thick enamel surrounds the dentin, but it doesn't always block the stains that build up on the surface, which is another cause of yellow teeth.
Our gels use an activie ingredient, Phthalimido- peroxy-hexanoic acid (PAP), that acts as a bleaching agent for the teeth. PAP targets the un-natural double bonds which cause tooth discolorations. It dissolves the stains in the enamel safely and effectively, whitening your teeth.
Studies have consistently demonstrated it's effectiveness, with 39% of people experiencing a whopping four shade improvement after just one treatment in a recent study.
No, our formula has been designed to ensure no sensitivity.
Studies have consistently demonstrated its effectiveness, with one 39% of people having a whopping four shade improvement after one treatment in a recent study.
Our plan has been designed to deliver whitening results in just 6 days.
The whitening effect diminishes after a few weeks, so regular monthly gel top-ups are recommended to keep your teeth nice and bright.
