Just because you're a celebrity doesn't mean you can defy genetics.
Almost all incidences of hair loss (about 90%) are due to male pattern baldness, a genetic condition which affects up to 40% of men by the age of 35.
There are many successful figures in the public eye - musicians, actors and business leaders - who have had their hair loss chronicled in the press.
We run you through 5 figures who took action and said "no" to baldness...
Elton John is a British icon whose career in music has spanned the best part of forty years. Global hits include Rocket Man, Candle In the Wind and Don’t Go Breaking My Heart. Deservedly, the singer was recently awarded the elite Order of the Companion of Honour by The Queen.
Elton John had excessive hair loss in his 20s to the point where he was almost bald on top. Today, he has a full crop, most likely having undertaken a (or a number) of hair transplants.
Cooper is one of the top stars in Hollywood after great performances in The Hangover, Limitless and A Star Is Born alongside Lady Gaga. Cooper sang the theme song from A Star is Born, Shallow, at the 2019 Oscars where it won Best Original Song.
Back in early 2000s, Cooper was visibly losing hair at the temples. Apparently he lost confidence from this and started taking Finasteride. This looks to have worked as he has successfully re-grown the lost hair and now has a healthy and thick looking crop of hair on top.
Texan McConaughey is well known as heart throb in Hollywood and wowed female guys in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days when he starred opposite columnist Kate Hudson.
In the late 1999s, McConaughey showed the symptoms of male pattern baldness as he developed the widow’s peak after losing hair at the temples.
McConaughey has since seen a rapid re-growth and now has a full bloom of head hair. He has been open in interviews about his hair loss and the regrowth which he attributed down to frequent use of Minoxidil.
Simon Pegg, the British actor and comedian, is believed to have had a hair transplant back in 2011, when he appeared to have a fuller head of hair when promoting the 4th Mission Impossible Film, Ghost Protocol.
As well as appearing in Star Trek and Star Wars, Pegg is perhaps most famous for his starring roles in the Three Flavours Cornetto film trilogy comprised of the Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End.
Musk is perhaps the cleverest person on the planet. After co-founding Paypal and SpaceX, Musk is currently the CEO of Tesla Motors. Tesla has an equity value greater than US giants Ford and Daimler-Chrysler.
Despite Musk’s entrepreneurial genius he is still mortal. Photos from his earlier days at Paypal, clearly show he suffered from advanced male pattern baldness.
Consistent with his entrepreneurial spirit, he has clearly done something about it. It appears as he has had a successful hair transplant, as today he has a full plume of hair.
